A Painless Life May Sound Enticing, But It’s the Guarantee to True Suffering
Pain is inevetable in life and its negative feeling is one that we all try to run from. Physical pain has medical solutions and emotional pain has its own panaceas and avoidance techqniques. But without pain in life, there is no growth of the inner self or personality development and enrichment. The adage “no pain no gain” is apt in some cases. Although suffering needlessly can create a victim mentality, being aware of pain as a part of life experience can help soothe. It is sometimes better to live through pain rather than trying to eliminate it.
- Pain prevents you from really getting hurt. You learn, through smaller doses of pain, what to back away from and what to avoid all together.
- You must realize what pain is, or suffering, to truly understand happiness and have gratitude for it in your life.
- Avoiding pain, by not confronting it, only prolongs it and usually makes everything far worse. Allow your pain to happen, grieve the moment and recognize you have become stronger and perhaps wiser because of it.
“Without the comparison to happiness, there’s no reason to be grateful for it. That is to say, without ever knowing sadness or pain, you would have no reason to be grateful for happiness.”
